Barton Knight Group upgraded the fluorescent house lights with energy-efficient commercial LEDs at a theatre at the Paddington Green campus of the City of Westminster College in London.

The existing lighting set-up was nearly 15 years old, and at the end of its life. The College was looking for energy-efficient, longer-lasting lighting that was cheaper to run and maintain, with more control over lux levels.

Barton Knight Group has upgraded the house lights for a City of Westminster College theatre in London with energy-efficient commercial LEDs. The Sarah Siddons Theatre is a professional state-of-the-art theatre space in the college’s Paddington Green campus.

“The existing fluorescent lighting set-up was 14 years old,” says Luke Francis, one of the lead electrical engineers at Barton Knight. “It was coming to the end of its and the college could no longer find replacement repair parts. We removed the existing lighting, ensuring safe dispoal according to WEEE regulations. Then we installed energy-efficient commercial LEDs, including Ansell Z LED Plus 75W Cool White DALI pendants. These high efficiency (200 lm/W) LED high bays are ideal for industrial, commercial, and retail use. The new commercial LEDs match 100-200W with low energy use and good durability, with a 50,000 hour life expectancy.”

The College specified higher lux levels for a cleaner, stronger light so the space could be used for classes too. Previously the lights were either always on or off, and weren’t dimmable – so the lighting was a considerable expense. The new high-spec commercial LEDs from Ansell Lighting also include dimmers and switches. These allow for more control over lighting levels, helping reduce bills and save carbon emissions.
