There were a number of electrical safety measures on this project, but sustainability was important too, with solar PV panels and EV chargers fitted.

Barton Knight’s team of experienced electricians helped convert an 8-bed property in Horsham into a state-of-the-art service for individuals with complex needs, run by Active Prospects.

The specification included a 5.66kW Solar PV Panel system and two 7.4kW EV chargers. This reduces reliance on the National Grid, lowers energy costs, and decreases the carbon footprint.

The converted property now includes four self-contained one-bed flats. These offer local people with disabilities the opportunity to move from long-term hospital environments to their own apartment.

Barton Knight completed a full rewire including running a new mains supply in 3-4 months. “There were a number of electrical safety measures on this project, but installing renewable energy measures was important too,” explains Luke Francis, Project Manager for Barton Knight Energy.

Thirteen 425W solar panels were fitted on the south-east and south-west elevations of the roof. These are high-efficiency solar panels to increase the overall system size, with Tigo optimisers to stop interference from shading. Black panels were chosen to minimise the visual impact.

The wiring for the panels took two days, with a third day for the second fixing/fitting. The investment is predicted to be paid back in 5-6 years, generating an additional source of income afterwards.

Barton Knight Energy also installed two 7.4kW EV chargers outside the property. These were wired and installed in a day.

The client was delighted with the work and we have been contracted for further work since.
